Deliveries for operator controlled live network tests of the Nokia 6200 handset will begin in Q4 2002. Commercial availability for first customers is expected to begin Q1 2003.

Users can also enjoy a high-quality sound experience with polyphonic MIDI ring tones, the integrated stereo FM radio, and voice recordings.

With the Nokia 6200 EDGE handset, users are able to download content, applications, access Internet and intranet information quickly and efficiently at data rates approximately two times (up to 118 kbps) that of conventional dial up (56 kbps). Personal data from the calendar, address book and to-do lists can also be remotely synchronized over the air with a network server or locally with a PC using IR (infrared) or an optional data cable to keep vital information up to date.

The Nokia 6200 also supports Java technology enabling users to download personalized content and applications of their choice, whether it is for entertainment, lifestyle management, or travel, for example. The Nokia 6200 phone also features an enhancement connectordesigned to support advanced functionalities such as digital accessory identification, stereo audio or fast data connectivity. The addition of the optional Nokia Camera Headset lets you capture and share images with a simple click and send.

Additional features of the Nokia 6200 phone include: – Four way scroll for faster navigation – Multiple numbers and addresses per name – Voice memo, recording, dial and commands

PRESS RELEASE

Nokia introduces the world’s first handset for WCDMA and GSM networks

Published September 26, 2002

Nokia today announced the world’s first 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) compliant mobile phone operating both in the GSM 900/1800 frequencies and on the WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) protocol. One of the benefits of the WCDMA radio interface in the Nokia 6650 phone is it allows running more than one data session simultaneously. This makes it possible, for example, to capture and share what the user sees whilst talking on the phone. The dual-mode functionality makes the Nokia 6650 phone the world’s first GSM/WCDMA handset to work in Europe and Asia including Japan.

The first deliveries for operator-controlled live network tests of the Nokia 6650 phone will start during fourth quarter, 2002. Depending on the WCDMA networks’ opening schedules and the maturity of the interoperability between networks, services and terminals , the first commercial deliveries of the Nokia 6650 are estimated to start during first half of 2003.

The Nokia 6650 phone offers robust functionality with pocket size comfort. Encompassing a large color display, integrated camera with picture and video capture, as well as voice, multiple data connectivity options and an advanced user interface, this innovative product is ideally suited to anyone who desires a mobile phone that combines leading-edge functionality with a high quality feel.

“The launch of the Nokia 6650 is solid proof of our capability to build highly sophisticated, yet user-friendly phones for more complex and demanding operating environments using new radio standards, like WCDMA,” said Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones. “Nokia is well prepared for – and indeed, driving – the technology transition to 3G application platforms and radio interfaces both in terminals as well as on the infrastructure side. We are working closely with all industry players to ensure both interoperability and a smooth technology take-off.”

The cutting-edge technical design of the new Nokia 6650 phone is based on a solution that brings both the GSM and WCDMA chips on to one circuit, enabling powerful talk times (up to 2h20min in WCDMA and up to 2h40min in GSM) and standby time (up to 14 days).

The Nokia 6650 is the first Nokia phone to incorporate the ability to record video simultaneously with sound. The VGA camera can be activated rapidly just by opening the lens cover of the camera. In addition to still pictures, you can capture video clips – with audio – for up to twenty seconds, in 4096 colors. The pictures or clips can be viewed and stored in the Nokia 6650, or sent to either a compatible phone or to an email address as a multimedia message. With the Nokia PC Suite software for the Nokia 6650, users can view and edit the multimedia contents of the phone on the PC. They can even compose personal movies by collecting different video clips under the same playlist, arrange them into their preferred order and play them back like a movie. With the PC Suite for the Nokia 6650, it is also possible to synchronize personal data such as calendar and contacts between PC and the phone. The PC Suite will be delivered to the consumers as a part of the sales package of the Nokia 6650.

The Nokia 6650 phone also includes a WAP 1.2.1 browser supported by GPRS, MIDP Java 1.0 technology for downloading additional applications to the phone, support for polyphonic ring tones, wallet application for mobile transactions and excellent data connectivity possibilities via USB, Bluetooth and infrared. The WCDMA bandwith support in the new phone provides mobile professionals with data connectivity from the laptop at significantly greater speeds than with ordinary landline modem.

Frugal yet fun: New Nokia 1200 Series phone brings style to entry-level market

Published April 18, 2002

IRVING, TEX – Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the new Nokia 1220 and Nokia 1260 wireless phones, which incorporate design elements from Nokia’s award-winning premium- level wireless phones and bring advanced features to a basic-level handset series. The Nokia 1200 Series phones will be targeted for first-time and prepaid users, and introduce features not usually associated with phones in the basic category, including e-mail, text and picture messaging, games, downloadable ring tones, and a phonebook with support for up to 200 entries.

“Nokia designs products tailored to each type of user, and entry-level phone users have their own set of needs,” said Pekka Vartiainen, senior vice president of sales for Nokia. “We don’t believe that the way to address this market segment is to simply strip features out of an existing product, but to include those features that consumers demand, and engineer it in a way that the product remains affordable for everyone.”

The Nokia 1200 Series phones are designed to be easy-to-use for novice wireless customers, yet powerful enough for experts. They include Nokia’s intuitive dual soft-key user interface that is found across Nokia’s range of wireless phones. This makes it easy for Nokia 1200 Series phone customers to move up to other Nokia handsets without having to relearn the operation of a new phone. The Nokia 1200 Series phone also includes easy-to-use large, high-contrast black-on-white keys on a compact 4.5 inch long, 5.3 ounce body.

The Nokia 1200 Series phones bring the power of mobile text communications to the entry- level wireless market by integrating the capability to easily send and receive e-mails, text messages and picture messages. With over 200 billion text messages sent in 2001 alone, the wireless phone has become more than a voice tool for wireless users across all market segments. Additionally, the Nokia 1200 Series phones introduce a new level of fun to the basic segment by including downloadable ring tones and three games, including Space Impact, Snake II and Pairs II.

Features of the Nokia 1220 (TDMA 800MHz/AMPS) and Nokia 1260 (TDMA 800/1900MHz/AMPS) phones include:

- Two-way mobile text messaging with predictive text input – E-mail support – Picture messaging – Downloadable ringing tones
